Seeing Cirque du Soleil in Vegas

Which of Cirque's six shows will you see when you go to Vegas?

Many people who travel to Las Vegas want to try and see a Cirque du Soleil show. Here are some suggestions for picking a show before you go.

It wasn't too long ago that you could say "oh, I'm going to see Cirque du Soleil when I'm in Las Vegas," and people would just nod their heads. Now, it's more likely that whomever you're talking to will want to know exactly which show you're planning on seeing. Slowly but surely, this French-Canadian circus troupe has gone from one show in town to staging no less than six of them.

The amazing thing is each show not only still adheres to the tenents and energy of the original Cirque concepts (you still won't see any animals), each show is unique in its look and staging. A lot of people who see one Cirque show often find themselves drawn back to see more. Some folks find they have to one-by-one see them all. Here are some descriptions to help you decide which of these fanciful and fantastical performances excites you the most, or maybe just where to start.

KA - at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino

This magical, mystical tale is about a set of twins and the specialized stage moves in both horizontal and vertical space as the story progresses. If you watch the tv show CSI, you probably saw the episode where a woman snuck backstage and was accidentally killed by the flying stage. This was the stage and show featured in that episode.

LOVE - at the Mirage Hotel and Casino

This is Cirque du Soleil's take on and tribute to the Beatles. A luscious, custom-mixed soundtrack of Beatles greats become the basis and backdrop to amazing acrobatics and astounding visuals.

Mystere - at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino

This show is a vibrant, sensory experience. The show has a loose theme about life and evolution that allows a shifting array of circus acts and performers.

O - at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino

This is one of the only Cirque du Soleil shows which you absolutely must travel to Vegas to see, as it can't be staged on the road at all. A custom-built water tank and stage combination in the Bellagio casino complex holds millions of gallons of water. Dozens of performers and an equal number of underwater support crew submerge, resurface and fly through the air in this unique extravaganza.

Zumanity - at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino

This is the adult offering from Cirque, again a show that does not go on the road, and no children under 18 are allowed to attend this one. Mature themes and exciting costuming highlight spectacular feats of strength and flexibility but this one is not for the children.
